PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M soccer team (4-1, 4-0 SWAC) outlasted Jackson State 3-2 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference match Sunday afternoon at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.
How it Happened:
The Lady Panthers struck first as Sonia Fuentes got behind the Jackson State defense for an easy tap-in goal at the 13th minute. Not long after, Andrea Nugent cashed in on a free kick to give Prairie View A&M a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes of play.
Jackson State refused to go away, as Annalise Brunson scored in the 29th minute to cut the Lady Panthers lead in half. From that point, the sides found themselves in a defensive stalemate that carried well into the second half of play.
After a potential game-tying Jackson State shot ricocheted off the crossbar in the 81st minute, Samantha Moran delivered in the final minutes for Prairie View A&M, capitalizing on a feed from Bety Hernandez-Ortega to put the Panthers ahead 3-1. Though Jackson State immediately responded with a goal to inch closer, that was all the visitors would get, as Prairie View A&M stonewalled the Lady Tigers' offense in the closing moments.
Quinn Josiah made three saves for the Lady Panthers, who outshot Jackson State 9-8.
