BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW – Behind a huge second half and a career-best effort by
Jawaun Daniels, the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team (14-4, 13-0 SWAC) clinched at least a share of the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season championship with a 81-69 win over Alcorn State Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened:
Following a quick start, the Panthers endured a near eight-minute stretch without a field goal. During that, the Braves scored 15 unanswered points to take a 19-9 lead with 8:44 left in the first half. After a pair of free throws from Dewayne Cox, Daniels buried a corner three to spark a 12-3 run that helped tie the game at 26.
The Braves continued to keep the Panthers out of their offensive groove through the first half, but the Panthers turned things around in a big way after intermission. After falling behind 46-40, Daniels caught fire and almost single-handedly powered a 20-4 run that put the Panthers up 60-50 midway through the half.
Though Alcorn State continued to hang around, Daniels and the Panthers were able to keep the Braves from getting too close.
Key Stats:
Daniels scored a career-high 30 points with 10 boards and three blocks. Jeremiah Gambrell scored 14 points with four rebounds and three assists. Cox chipped in 12 points with eight rebounds and three assists.
Cam Mack notched a double-double with 10 points with 12 assists, and
D'Rell Roberts added 10 points.
Jerroda Briscoe led the defensive effort with five blocked shots.
