PRAIRIE VIEW – A six-run fourth inning was the difference for Prairie View A&M softball (11-10) as the Lady Panthers took down Houston Baptist 7-4 Tuesday afternoon at the PVAMU Softball Complex.

The win is the 153^rd for Lady Panthers head coach Vernon Bland, putting him four victories away from the program's all-time record.

How it Happened:
After Alexandria Lewis tied the game at 1-1 with a RBI single in the third inning that scored Natalie McLennan, the Lady Panthers capitalized on shoddy pitching by the Huskies in the fourth. As HBU hurlers Elliott Estes and Sarah Venker lost command of the strike zone, Prairie View A&M drew four walks – with a Jazlyn Perry single mixed in – to push a pair of runs across the plate.

Afterward, Lewis punished the Huskies with a two-run single to right center field  and after Brianna Grays scored on a passed ball, a RBI groundout from Kimberly Hernandez gave Prairie View A&M a commanding 7-1 lead.

Houston Baptist would post a run in each of the final three innings and got two on with two outs in the seventh. However, Mya Hall put a stop to the Huskies' comeback attempts, striking out Jackie Jessup to earn the save.

Key Stats:
Lewis was 2-for-4 on the day, with Toni Espinoza, Jayla Richard and Jeah Williams each adding a hit. McLennan scored two runs. Kara Fucci got the win with 2.0 innings of relief work, allowing one run and two hits. Starter Chaynau Johnson threw 3.0 innings, conceding three hits and one run.

PVAMU hosts Incarnate Word in a doubleheader on April 20. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
