NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Prairie View A&M men's tennis team fell 4-2 to Alcorn State in the quarterfinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championships.
How it Happened:
The Panthers took control early on in doubles play as Jorge Juarez Caballero and Juan Malham Viada took the No. 1 doubles match 6-4 over Alcorn's David Pata and Luka Andonov. From there, the Panthers clinched the tandem point thanks to Jadyn Boone and Tyrese Washington's 6-4 win over the Braves' duo of Kareem Bowe and Santiago Rocca.
However, singles play was a reversal of fortune. Alcorn pulled ahead as Prairie View A&M's Rodrigo Yoshikata dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision in the No. 3 singles match, and Kevin Ugarteche was bested 6-2, 6-1.
Caballero tied the match for the Panthers, outlasting Pata 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. However, the Braves managed a pair of three-set wins to advance to the semifinals.
