Softball clashes with Southern in key SWAC series

PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M softball team (12-11, 9-3 SWAC) hits the road for a key Southwestern Athletic Conference series as the Lady Panthers face Southern (9-18, 8-4 SWAC) in hopes of holding firm atop the standings in the SWAC Western Division.

PVAMU News and Notes:
- PVAMU has won four of its last five outings and has allowed three runs or less in five of its past seven games.

- Head Coach Vernon Bland is three wins away from becoming the program's all-time leader in coaching victories.

- Led by Natalie McLennan's .414 average, Prairie View A&M boasts the best offense in the league, pacing all SWAC teams in hitting (.271), runs per game (4.4) and stolen bases per game (2.3; eighth nationally).   

- Alyssa Garcia leads the team with 13 RBI and is one of four Lady Panthers that have driven in 10+ runs this season.

- The Lady Panthers are 9-1 in their last 10 games versus Southern.

Scouting Southern:
- The Lady Jaguars (7-14, 5-1 SWAC) have won four of their last five to put themselves in striking distance of the West's top seed. Mariyah Sandoval is the team's most productive hitter with a .353 average and 14 RBI. Lauren Parks is putting together an impressive campaign, with 25 hits at a .347 average along with 15 runs scored and three triples.

- In the circle, Aubrion James and Kaitlyn Donaldson present a stiff challenge as the duo forms one of the better pitching tandems in the conference.
