BATON ROUGE, La. – The Prairie View A&M softball team (12-12, 9-4 SWAC) was unable to overcome self-inflicted wounds as well as a fast start from Southern, falling 9-1 Saturday afternoon during Southwestern Athletic Conference action at Lady Jaguars Field.
How it Happened:
Southern jumped ahead to a 4-0 lead after the first inning, leaving the Lady Panthers having to fight from behind. Jeah Williams cut into the Lady Jaguars' lead with a RBI single in the second inning that scored Cameron Lavergne, but outside of that, Prairie View A&M was unable to get enough done against Southern starting pitcher Aubrion James.
Aided by several miscues from the Prairie View A&M defense, the Lady Jaguars put up three runs in the third inning and added a pair of runs in the fifth to pull away.
Key Stats:
Williams, Brianna Grays, Kimberly Hernandez and Alyssa Garcia had one hit each. Mya Hall was charged with the loss after allowing four earned runs. PVAMU committed five errors in the game.
