WACO, Texas – The Prairie View A&M baseball team (10-15) was unable to overcome a fast start by Baylor, as the Panthers fell to the Bears 14-0 Tuesday evening at Baylor Ballpark.
How it Happened:
Prairie View A&M let a prime scoring chance get away in the first inning, as
Benjamin Ybarra reached on an error and
Brayden Johnson was struck by a pitch to put runners on first and second base with one out. However, the Panthers were unable to push either man across home plate, and the Bears put together a 4-0 lead after the first inning – thanks in part to a pair of runs scoring via wild pitch.
In the top of the second,
Paul Castro singled and Zach Trevino drew a walk to give the Panthers a chance to cut into the deficit, but the runners were stranded. Baylor then added three runs to its lead. Outside of an
Alex Martinez single in the third inning and a fifth-inning double by
Demarie' Smith, the Panthers were unable to manufacture scoring chances the rest of the way. The Bears put up six runs in the fourth inning to pull away.
Next Up:
The Panthers head to Grambling State for a key SWAC series that could decide the Western Division's top seed heading into tournament play.
