BOX SCORE GULFPORT, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M softball team (16-16) saw its season come to a heartbreaking end, as the Lady Panthers fell 2-1 to Jackson State in a 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament elimination game at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
How it Happened:
A pitcher's duel between Prairie View A&M's
Mya Hall and Jackson State's Kayla Owens, neither side got much done offensively outside of a RBI single by Isis Taylor in the bottom of the third that put the Tigers up 1-0. The Lady Panthers weren't able to get to Owens until the top of the seventh, where
Gabrielle Fonseca led off with a single.
After
Kimberly Hernandez laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Fonseca to scoring position,
Alyssa Garcia blasted a RBI double to deep center to tie the game 1-1. Pinch-runner
Brandi Juarez eventually moved to third, but the Lady Panthers were unable to put more runs up.
In the bottom of the frame, a fielding error allowed Jackson State to eventually load the bases, and Taylor singled to score the eventual game-winning run.
Ryleigh Love also had a base hit for PVAMU. Hall scattered six hits and one earned run in the loss.
