PRAIRIE VIEW – Prairie View A&M finished strong as the top three runners took the top three places winning the team title with 22 points during the Clifton Gilliard Cross Country Invite held Thursday morning on the campus of Prairie View A&M University.
In the 5k race, junior
Naomi Davis paced PVAMU with the time of 21:03.3. Her efforts, coupled with a second place showing by junior
Shelby Devereaux with a personal best (21:24.0) and sophomore
Jourdan Garnett, who also had a personal best day (21:35.9) lifting the Lady Panthers to the team title.
Texas Southern finished with 33 points, placing five runners in the top 10. North American was a distant third, finishing with 78 points.
Freshman
Laila Diaz placed sixth overall with a time of 24:06.1 for the Lady Panthers team, while freshman Titilope Akinwunmi (24:58.2) finished with a personal best and a 10
th place finish. Sophomore
Jalen Elrod had a personal best mark also (24:59.6) balancing out the PVAMU team in 11
th place respectively.
The Lady Panthers will return to the off roads when the take a visit to College Station, Texas for the Texas A&M Invite, October 15.
