STILLWATER, Okla. – The Prairie View A&M University men's basketball team fought a tough fight Sunday afternoon, hanging in throughout much of the game in a 78-53 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Gallagher – Iba Arena.
The Panthers led majority of the first half as each team knotted five times throughout the half. PVAMU had control up to the 1:17 mark with a 26-25 lead. With a final tie at 1:02 (26-26) OSU took a one-point lead into the break (27-26).
PVAMU was led by
Jeremiah Gambrell who scored 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting including 3-of-8 from long range. Trajan Wesley scored a season-high of 10 points and added four rebounds, and three steals. Will Douglas added seven points, a team-high of six rebounds, and two steals.
Despite an all-around effort from the Panthers, Oklahoma State had too many weapons for PVAMU to deal with. The Cowboys had four players reach double-figure in scoring, led by Tre Anderson,16, Bryce Thompson and Moussa Cissa that scored 13 points apiece. Moussa had a team high of 11 rebounds. Quio Williams scored 11 points.
The Panthers fell to 4-3 on the season, while Oklahoma State improved to 5-2.
The Panthers shot 21-of 57 (36.8 percent) from the field for the game and hit 7-of-24 (29.2 percent) from long range. PVAMU hit 4-of (50.0 percent) of its free throws.
The Cowboys hit 5-of-15 of their three pointers, and shot 55.6 percent (30-of-54) from the field for the game. 20 of OSU's points came off of turnovers, and seven came on the fast break.
The Cowboys outrebounded Oklahoma State by a 41-25 margin. The Panthers turned the ball over 15 times in the contest, and forced the Cowboys into 11 giveaways.
The Panthers will return to Houston to take on the Rice Owls to end out the month of Nov. The two teams are set to play on Nov. 30 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
