PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M baseball team scored 17 runs on 14 hits Friday afternoon, shutting out the Alcorn State Braves, 17-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- PV would get on the board first, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first with a lead off RBI double by Tre Turner. Benjamin Ybarra singled to right field for another RBI. Sebastian Coria and Dominic Cox would be walked to load the bases. On the next at bat, Paul Castro made it to first on a fielder's choice, as the bases were still loaded. Zack Trevino's single up the middle made it a 4-0 score. But the Panthers were still not finished, as the team returned to the top of the line up with Demarie' Smith, who hit a two RBI single to left field. An error by the third baseman allowed Jordan Ginn to score, before a Ybarra singled advancing the lead to 8-0.
- The Panthers added one more run in the bottom of the third as Smith led off with a single up the middle, before stealing base, and advancing home on a wild pitch. PV added a run in the bottom of the fourth also on a RBI walk to score Cox.

A double by Keanu Maldonado to right field and a walk by Ginn loaded the bases. Walk by Jayden Williams allowed the bases to remain loaded, a single by Christian Mendez kept the bases loaded. Two more singles on by Zach Turner and another by Gilbert Gonzales pushed the lead to 16-0. A Coria's sac fly scored the final run for the Panthers to take a 17-0 lead and the game.
