Prairie View A&M Softball Falls to Brown and HBU on First Day of HBU Tourney

HOUSTON – The Lady Panthers softball team opened the HBU Tournament with a 9-3 loss to Brown University, before falling in the afternoon cap to host team HBU 2-0.

Game 1
Brown 9, PVAMU 3
  • Brown broke the game open in the top of the first to put them up 1-0.  The Bears scored again in the top of second advancing their lead to 2-0.
  • PVAMU remained scoreless as the Bears added three more runs in the top of the third.
  • PV would answer in the bottom of the third when graduate student Natalie McLennan led off with a single through the middle, and advanced on a stolen base to second.  McLennan would come home when sophomore Biviana Figueroa doubled to center field to score their first run (5-1 Bears).
  • PV was able to hold Brown off until the top of the fifth when they added two more runs to advance their lead to 7-1.  Again the Lady Panthers would answer with two more runs of their own.
  • McLennan opened the bottom of the fifth with another single up the middle, before Jaylyn Davis was walked advancing McLennan.  Despite a double play that would get two runners out, Figueroa came in and again doubled to left center scoring Davis.  Sophomore Jerrica Rojas replaced Hailey Elizzarraras in the lineup, scoring Figueroa on a single to right field making the score 7-3.
  • The Bears scored two more in the seventh to take the 9-3 win over the Lady Panthers.
Cailin Massey had the start on the mound taking the loss for PV.  McLennan led the offense for PVAMU going 3-for-3 on one run.

Game 2
HBU 2, PVAMU 0
  • HBU got on the board first taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  Both teams went scoreless until the Huskies added a run in the fourth to advance their score 2-0 and take the win.
Sophomore Mya Hall took the loss for the Lady Panthers.  Both Rojas and Figueroa went 2-for-3, but PVAMU was never able to capitalize on those hits, stranding six in the loss.
