The Lady Panthers Softball Team Splits with UAPB on Saturday to take the Series

PRAIRIE VIEW – In the final two games of the three game series the Prairie View A&M took game one 8-6 dropping the second game with a heartbreaking 8-7 score. The Lady Panthers won the series 2-1 after taking game one on Friday over Arkansas Pine Bluff.
 
GAME 1
PVAMU 8, UAPB 6
 
  • Both teams opened with runs on the board in the first inning.  UAPB scored two in the top and PV scored one off of a wild pitch that allowed Aniya Spangler to score. 
  • Through three and a half scoreless inning in the bottom of the fourth saw a grand slam for PVAMU by Spangler to take a 5-2 lead.
  • Panthers responded with a RBI single to left field knotting the game at 6-6.
  • PVAMU took back the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a costly error by UAPB to score Natalie McLennanBiviana Figueroa also scored to make it a two run deficit for the Lady Lions (8-6).
  • Spangler led the offense going 3-for-3 with four RBI's.  Jerrica Rojas got the win on the mound for the Lady Panthers in the second game of the series.
GAME 2
UAPB 8, PVAMU 7
  • In a rubber match, UAPB was again the first team on the board, scoring one run to lead the Lady Panthers 1-0 in the top of the first.  PVAMU would come back through, scoring three in the bottom of the first taking a 3-1 lead. 
  • It was not until the fourth were a double and a homer added four runs to UAPB's now lead.  The Lady Panthers added one in the bottom of the fourth as Brelyn Senegal came across the plate stealing home.
  • Arkansas Pine Bluff added two more runs in the top of the sixth as they expressed the end of the game was coming, but PVAMU did not elude to this as they tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Jaylyn Davis 3 RBI homerun.
  • The game went into three extra innings as the international rule came into effect allowing a runner on second to make the final decision on who would win the game.  The outcome was in favor of UAPB as they took the 8-7 win.
  • Cailin Massey received the loss on the mound and Davis led the Lady Panthers on offense going 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Up next, the Lady Panther are taking on SFA at home in a single game on April 19 at 3 p.m.
