PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Prairie View A&M baseball team swept the Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions winning all three game over the weekend. The Panthers defeated UAPB by the scores of 4-3 on Friday, 12-3 on Saturday and 8-5 during Sunday's contest. This moves PVAMU to 13-15 on the year and 6-3 in conference play.
GAME ONE
PVAMU 4, UAPB 3
- In Friday's contest the Golden Lions got the scoring started in the bottom of the second. The Panthers answered in the top of the fourth with Zach Trevino doubling to left field and Tre Turner singling to left field scoring Trevino to knot the game at 1-1.
- Pine Bluff took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. The Panthers responded in the top of the fifth putting three more runs on the board to take a 4-2 lead. Turner opened the inning with a single to right center advancing to second on a wild pitch. Benjamin Ybarra's sac bunt moved Turner into scoring position. Prior to a pitching change Alex Martinez was hit by pitch putting runners on the bag. Jordan Ginn pinch hit for Brayden Johnson hitting an RBI single to second for the second run scored. Dominic Cox tripled to right center scoring Martinez and Ginn for a final 4-2 inning score.
- Pine Bluff threatened in the bottom of the seventh adding a third run to their score to make the score 4-3. This would be the final score for both teams in favor of the Panthers taking the victory.
- Robert Maldonado earned the win on the mound for the Panthers pitching 7.0 innings, while Derrick Curry secured the save pitching the final two innings. Turner led the offense going 3=for-5 with 1 RBI, Cox was 1-for-5 with two RBI.
GAME TWO
PVAMU 12, UAPB 3
- In Saturday's game the Panthers took an early 1-0 lead. Demarie Smith opened the first inning with a double to right center on a 2-2 count. With two outs Martinez singled to left field to score Smith for PVAMU's first run of the game.
- Prairie View scored three runs in the top of the fourth, three players drew walks to load the bases. Trevino scored Mason Heiskell and Ginn for a 2 RBI double to left field to advance the score to 3-0. With a runner on second Blake Redman was walked. On a throwing error by the catcher the Panthers Trevino scored for a 4-0 lead.
- The Golden Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 4-3 score. The Panthers put seven runs on the board with the scoring starting off with a single by Heiskell to right field. With runners on first and second, Smith singled to right field to load the bases. Turner had a four RBI triple as he scored on an error by the second baseman increasing the lead to 8-3.
- Ybarra continued the inning with a single to third base, prior to some defensive changes by the Golden Lions. With runners on first and second Cox homered for a 3 RBI 11-3 score.
- Redman hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Cox in the top of the ninth for a 12-3 score and the win for PVAMU.
- Matthew Krall earned the win on the mound for the Panthers.
GAME THREE
PVAMU 8, UAPB 5
- On the final day of three game series UAPB opened the game up with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Panthers got on the board in the top of the third and scored one in the fourth. Smith got on base and stole second before Ybarra notched an RBI single to make it 2-1 in favor of UAPB.
- Johnson opened the fourth with a double to center field stealing third. Heiskell grounded out to score Johnson to knot the game at 2-2.
- The Panthers busted the game open in the top of the fifth. Redman reached base on a walk, then stealing second. With runners on the corners before Smith stole second. Turner's sac fly scored Redman, before Ybarra hit an RBI single to right field. Johnson scorched a two RBI homerun to left field for a 6-2 lead.
- The Panthers scored once in the top of the sixth as Turner hit a RBI to advance the score to 7-2.
- The Golden Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, narrowing the deficit to 7-4. In the bottom of the eighth UAPB scored a final run to make the score 7-5. In the visitor's top half of the eighth, Trevino hit a single RBI to right field to allow the Panthers an 8-5 game three win and the weekend series sweep.
- Victor Mendoza earned the win on the mound for the Panthers, striking out two. Johnson led the offense for the PVAMU going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

The Panthers will return to action when they play host to the Huston-Tillotson Rams on Tuesday, April 5 for a 1 p.m. first pitch at Tankersley Field.
