GULFPORT, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M softball team downs Florida A&M 4-3 on the opening day of the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Tuesday, May 10.
How it Happened:
- Freshman Cailin Massey dealt a six inning-game victory, striking out two Rattlers and Jerrica Rojas earned the save.
- Through three and half scoreless innings PVAMU got on the board first with the bases loaded and a walk by Destinee Smith, who scored Biviana Fiegueroa for the first run of the game. Natalie McLennan singled to third base for two RBI's and a 3-0 score.
- The Rattlers scored on a sac RBI bunt to give the game a slight scare. The score remained the same until PV scored another run to take a 4-1 lead.
- In the top of the seventh Florida A&M threatened again, but was not able to take the game.
The Lady Panthers advance to face the first seed on the East Bethune-Cookman after they defeated Southern in the evening nightcap of today's contest. The first' pitch is scheduled for a 6 p.m. game at the Gulfport Sportsplex in Gulfport, Miss on Wednesday.
