PRAIRIE VIEW – Prairie View A&M's head women's soccer coach, Sonia Curvelo, has announced her resignation from the position as of May 31.

After her third season at the helm of the Lady Panthers soccer program Curvelo guided the program to their second SWAC Championship (2019 & 2021), while also earning their second bid to the NCAA regionals.

"To the fans and families, thank you for the love and support over the years and being part of our story and supporting my player's journey, said Curvelo."  "The program has a strong successful foundation and the program will only grow moving forward.  It's been such a pleasure coaching the players and I will always cherish those special moments.  I thank my colleagues for everything.  I wish each of you the very best."

Under Curvelo's tutelage, the 2019 season culminated in the Lady Panthers' first SWAC Soccer Tournament crown and it was the first time that PVAMU entered the NCAA College Cup as league champions. Five Lady Panthers received All-SWAC honors: Diana Neff, Jojo Bernal, Ashley Chala, Quinn Josiah and Alex Fields. Additionally, Kaila Brown won SWAC Tournament MVP honors and Andrea Nugent earned all-tournament honors.

" Coach Curvelo's legacy, will extend well beyond the numerous awards, accolades, and championships. She will be forever remembered in our community as a winner, who did things the right way, guiding, developing, and empowering the student-athlete," said Director of Athletics Dr. Donald R. Reed.  "So on behalf of Prairie View A&M University, I would like to express our overwhelming "Gratitude" for her commitment to the PVAMU soccer program."

"When looking for a successor, we want a candidate who will be able to navigate the changing landscape of collegiate athletics, and keep PVAMU soccer in a position of strength- now and in the future"
