PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Dating back to 1987 the Lamar Cardinals has walked away with wins over the Lady Panthers volleyball team. Well tonight was no walk in the park, as Prairie View A&M University came through in the clutch, picking up a 3-2 decision over Southland Conference member Lamar in a midweek matchup.
After a competitive quartet of sets (25-21, 21-25, 25-15, 21-25) that left both teams tied at two sets each, the fans at the William J. Nicks Building were treated to a dramatic fifth set that featured the Lady Panthers taking a quick 8-3 lead.

Kylee Owens kill sealed the decisive set 15-11 for the second win of the season for the Lady Panthers.
Several Lady Panthers made their presence felt all night on the court including a trio pf players who tallied double figures. Owens paced the offense with 28 kills averaging .227, with three service aces, one block assist and 17 digs.
Taylor Roberts had a career high of 13 kills for a .294 average with one assist, one block solo and one block and two digs. Freshman right side hitter
Leila Smalls had 10 kills, one assist, two block assists and eight digs.
Senior setter
Jakarta Hope did most of the setting up as she dished out 30 assists, while Yvone MacKenzie had 25 assists for a season high. She also had three service aces and nine digs. Senior libero
Skyla Childs stabilized the Lady Panther defense with 28 digs.
Lamar also had a pair of players flourish on offense as Kaitlyn Gil had 16 kills and Paige Dugan turned in 15 kills and 14 digs. Gil also had 12 digs and Grace Luevanos tallied 19. London Hatch registered 41 assists.
"Tonight was an exciting win for us," said head PVAMU Volleyball coach
TaCho Tyler. "We have never beaten Lamar in the history of the program. We had a balanced offensive attack, but more importantly we blocked really well. We played with discipline for majority of the match. I am hoping that this win will give the team the confidence they need to propel us into more wins."
The Lady Panthers will travel to Arlington, Texas to compete in the UTA Invitational. The two-day four-team tournament will feature a rematch versus the Cardinals, New Orleans and UT Arlington. The first serve is set for 1:30 p.m. on Friday in Arlington, Texas.
