Lady Panthers Volleyball Continues to Make Strides

PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M volleyball team competed in their final non-conference tournament this weekend finishing 2-3 versus Lamar, 1-3 against host team UT-Arlington and 0-3 to New Orleans at the UT-Arlington Invite Friday and Saturday.

Game One
PVAMU 2, Lamar 3
 
In a five set thriller on Wednesday versus Lamar the Lady Panthers picked up another win on the season to turn around and face the Cardinals on Friday in another five set matchup.

PVAMU opened the match winning set one with the score of 25-19, falling 25-22 in sets two and three.  PV took frame four 25-14 falling in the final set 15-9.

Freshman right side hitter led the offensive charge for PVAMU with 15 kills.  She also had three blocks in the game.  Freshman Kylee Owens had 14 kills and 18 digs.

Game Two
PVAMU 1, UT Arlington 3
Game two started much like game one in a Friday evening matchup versus host team UT Arlington. 
 
The Lady Panthers kept their momentum from game one as they opened the match with a 25-20 win over the Mavericks.
 
It was UT-Arlington, who took the remainder of the sets by the scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-18 to take match two.
 
Owens led the Lady Panthers with 15 kills, and three blocks.  Smalls paced the team with nine kills and 10 digs.  Makinzie Taplin dished out a team high 20 assists.
 
Game Three
PVAMU 0, UNO 3
The Lady Panthers final match was a much different team on Saturday evening.
 
UNO struck fast and quick as the Lady Panthers fell behind quickly falling 25-15.  Set two called for a different team as PVAMU closed out set two by the score of 25-21.  Trying to come out with a different outcome in set three, but they just couldn't get that last push they needed falling 25-22.
 
Owens came away with 13 kills, two aces and 10 digs, while Kiersten Atkinson had seven kills and five blocks.  Defensively Skyla Childs led the charge with 16 digs, she also had an ace in the match.
