HUNTSVILLE, AL --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team got a 28-point showing from the bench, but fell 67-59 to the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on the road Monday.
Tekorian Smith led the Panthers (7-14, 3-5) with 24 points and two steals. Brian Myles tacked on six points and two steals from the bench and Ricky Nelson chipped in as well with nine points from the bench.
Led by Nikkei Rutty's three offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in 10 second chance points.
The Prairie View A&M defense was a problem in Monday's game, forcing 19 Alabama A&M turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 17 points on the offensive end of the floor. Smith's two steals led the way individually for the Panthers.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 37-27 heading into halftime.
Alabama A&M kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 63-43 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Smith's three, to shrink the deficit to 63-50 with 2:51 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept their comeback going, but Alabama A&M managed to hold on for the 67-59 win. Prairie View A&M capitalized on seven Alabama A&M turnovers in the period, collecting nine points off those turnovers.
