Smith IV scores 22 points in Prairie View A&M's 83-65 loss to Washington State

PULLMAN, WA --Charles Smith IV totaled 22 points, but the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Washington State Cougars 83-65 on the road Friday.

The Panthers (1-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Smith IV, who had 22 points. Chris Felix, Jr.,  added 15 points and Nick Gazelas helped out with 11 points.

Led by Andre Nunley's two offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in 19 second-chance points.

Prairie View A&M forced 15 Washington State turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Friday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into nine points on the offensive end of the floor. Nunley's three steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 43-30 heading into halftime.

Washington State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 56-41 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 56-46 with 12:10 to go in the contest. Washington State responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 83-65. Prairie View A&M made the most of 11 offensive rebounds to tack on 17 second-chance points out of 35 total in the period.
