NEW ORLEANS, LA --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 28-point showing from the bench, but fell 71-46 to the Tulane Green Wave on the road Tuesday.
LaFaedria Green led the Panthers (2-1) with eight points, six rebounds and three steals. Jada Roberson added four points and two steals from the bench and Ryann Payne chipped in as well with seven points and two steals.
Led by Green's three offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in seven second chance points.
The Prairie View A&M defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Tuesday's game, forcing 17 Tulane turnovers while committing 15. Those takeaways turned into 10 points on the offensive end of the floor. Green's three steals led the way individually for the Panthers.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 22-15 at the end of the first quarter.
Tulane kept adding to that lead, building a 32-20 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Roberson, to narrow its deficit to 32-27. The Panthers continued to chip away, reducing the Tulane lead to 36-32 heading into the break.
Tulane continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 42-33 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 42-38 with 4:38 to go in the third. Tulane countered and stretched its lead to 53-40 heading into the fourth. Prairie View A&M took advantage of four Tulane turnovers in the quarter, scoring two points off of takeaways.
Prairie View A&M could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 71-46. Prairie View A&M fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down one shot to account for three of its six points.
