PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team kept Incarnate Word to just 18.2 percent from deep in a 4-for-22 shooting performance, but fell 57-44 to the Cardinals at home Monday.
Desiree Lewis led the Panthers (3-3) with 14 points, two steals and two blocks. Amauri Williams also added six points, 11 rebounds and two blocks and Ryann Payne helped out with eight points and two steals.
Led by Payne's five offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in five second chance points.
Prairie View A&M's defense held Incarnate Word to only 18.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 33.3 percent from the field.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 15-8 at the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 29-21 halftime deficit.
Prairie View A&M started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing it to 38-31 by the end of the third quarter. Prairie View A&M played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 10 points in the paint.
Prairie View A&M could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 57-44. Prairie View A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
