FORT WORTH, TX --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 22-point performance from the bench, but fell 85-41 to the TCU Horned Frogs on the road Sunday.
Desiree Lewis led the Panthers (3-4) with 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Amauri Williams added six points and six rebounds off of the bench and Mikayla Hutchinson chipped in as well with seven points off the bench.
Led by Lewis' five offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in nine second chance points.
Prairie View A&M's defense held TCU to only 38.7 percent shooting from the field.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-2, Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run with 6:17 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Lewis, to narrow its deficit to 9-8. TCU answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Panthers down 17-12 entering the second quarter.
The Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 38-19 halftime deficit.
TCU continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 47-22 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Jada Roberson, to trim its deficit to 47-27 with 4:37 to go in the third. TCU countered and stretched its lead to 64-28 heading into the fourth. Prairie View A&M's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled five of the team's nine third-quarter points.
Prairie View A&M could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 85-41. Prairie View A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
