PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Behind a dominant defensive effort that held the UAPB offense to 146 total yards, Prairie View A&M knocked off the Golden Lions 38-14 at home Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers improved to 4-5 on the year and 4-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Golden Lions fell to 1-8 and 0-6.
Trazon Connley led Prairie View A&M's passing attack with 305 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown without throwing an interception. The signal caller also added 46 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
Jamarious Brooks led all Panthers rushers with 84 yards in the contest, picking up 6 yards per carry.
Shemar Savage pulled in eight catches for 136 yards. Chris Herron made his presence felt in the passing game, recording three receptions for 54 yards.
Dejuan Lewis showed out for the Prairie View A&M defense, totaling three tackles and one interception. Cameron Franklin added one recovered fumble and Warren Shankle had five tackles, 3.0 TFL, and one sack in the win.
The Panthers won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing two turnovers while avoiding any giveaways, with Prairie View A&M turning those takeaways into seven points. Prairie View A&M converted on 41.7 percent of third-down attempts on the day.

Prairie View A&M then added a field goal with 14:43 remaining in the second quarter to make it a 17-0 lead. The Panthers continued to build their lead after UAPB narrowed the gap to 24-7, scoring again to go up 31-7.
Prairie View A&M continued to build its advantage after UAPB made it a 31-14 game, scoring again with 9:34 left in the fourth quarter to make the score 38-14. Neither team scored again in the game.
