SEATTLE, WA --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team got a 27-point showing from the bench but fell 71-60 to the Seattle U Redhawks on the road Wednesday.
The Panthers (1-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Nick Gazelas, who had 16 points. Charles Smith IV tacked on 15 points, six rebounds, and two steals and Javontae Hopkins added eight points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
Hopkins pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace the Prairie View A&M offense which grabbed 19 boards and turned them into 12 second-chance points.
Prairie View A&M forced 23 Seattle U turnovers while committing 17 themselves in Wednesday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 22 points on the offensive end of the floor. Hopkins' four steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 39-27 heading into halftime.
Seattle U kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 62-43 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Gazelas' three, to shrink the deficit to 62-52 with 4:09 to go in the contest. Seattle U responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 71-60. Prairie View A&M capitalized on eight Seattle U turnovers in the period, collecting 10 points off those turnovers.
