Myles and Hopkins lead Prairie View A&M past 92-61

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --Brian Myles scored 21 points and Javontae Hopkins added 20 and the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team defeated the 92-61 at home Monday.

The Panthers (5-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Myles, who had 21 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Hopkins added 20 points and three steals and Charles Smith, IV chipped in as well with 14 points.

Prairie View A&M shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking up 21 assists on 31 made field goals. Orlando Horton, Jr., five assists led the Panthers and Nick Gazelas also helped out with four assists of his own.

The Prairie View A&M defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Monday's game, forcing 26 turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into 39 points on the offensive end of the floor. Horton's four steals led the way individually for the Panthers.


How It Happened

After jumping out to a 19-14 advantage, Prairie View A&M went on a 9-0 run with 10:15 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Hopkins, to increase its lead to 28-14. The Panthers then added nine points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 46-23 advantage. Prairie View A&M did most of its first-half damage in the paint, scoring 24 of its 46 points close to the basket.

Prairie View A&M kept its lead intact before going on a 10-0 run, finished off by Hopkins' layup, to grow the lead to 80-50 with 5:44 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 92-61 win. Prairie View A&M capitalized on 11 turnovers in the period, collecting 17 points off those turnovers.
