Panthers come up short in a 35-14 loss to Florida A&M in 2023 SWAC Championship Game

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Prairie View A&M fell 35-14 to Florida A&M on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Rattlers improved to 11-1 on the year and 9-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Panthers fell to 6-6 overall and 6-3 in conference matchups.

Chris Herron paced the Panthers rushing attack by accumulating 70 yards throughout the game, averaging 10 yards per carry. Caleb Johnson also added 56 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. Ahmad Antoine chipped in with 52 yards and one touchdown as well, averaging 8.7 yards per carry.

Trazon Connley's most prolific target in the ballgame was Trejon Spiller, who caught three passes for 27 yards.

Keyshawn Johnson led the Panthers with 11 tackles while Tre'vion Green had nine in the loss.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M responded to an early 21-0 Florida A&M advantage with a second-quarter touchdown to narrow the deficit to 21-7. The Panthers then scored again, narrowing their deficit to 21-14. Prairie View A&M didn't score again in the game and Florida A&M tacked on 14 more points to finish off the scoring.
