BRYAN | COLLEGE STATION, Texas --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team held Texas A&M to just 12.5 percent from deep in a 3-for-24 shooting performance, but fell 79-54 to the Aggies on the road Saturday.
Javontae Hopkins led the Panthers (5-8) with 20 points and two steals. Charles Lane, Jr. added eight points and three steals off the bench and Charles Smith IV chipped in as well with eight points off of the bench.
Prairie View A&M's defense held Texas A&M to only 12.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Panthers also limited Wade Taylor IV to 1-of-7 shooting from downtown in the game.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 34-21 heading into halftime.
Texas A&M kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 71-47 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Smith's three, to shrink the deficit to 71-52 with 4:27 to go in the contest. Texas A&M responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 79-54. Prairie View A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 11 of its 33 total points.
