PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --Will Douglas totaled 31 points to help lead the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team past the UAPB Golden Lions 82-71 at home Saturday.
Douglas added eight rebounds and five assists to his 31-point game to lead the Panthers (10-17, 6-8). Yahuza Rasas helped out with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds and Ricky Nelson chipped in with nine points and five assists.
Prairie View A&M shared the ball well in Saturday's game, racking up 20 assists on 28 made field goals. Nelson's five assists led the Panthers.
Prairie View A&M did a great job disrupting UAPB shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Rasas' three rejections led the way individually for the Panthers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 33-26, Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run with 1:45 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Rasas, to narrow its deficit to 33-31. The Panthers continued to close the gap, cutting the UAPB lead to 35-34 by the end of the first half.
UAPB kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 48-42 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run to seize a 50-48 lead with 13:29 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 82-71 win. Prairie View A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 23 of its 48 total points.
