HOUSTON, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers got a strong performance out of freshman Michael Burroughs, who collected two extra base hits in a 8-3 loss to the Jackson State Tigers Sunday.
Junior Devin Aguado (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (1-2) and took the loss. Junior Tyrone Ty was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing 1.2 shutout innings, allowing one hit.
Burroughs' two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included two doubles and an RBI. Sophomore Benjamin Ybarra put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers were trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M got on the board thanks to Burroughs' RBI double with one out.
The Tigers broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fifth inning, when the Panthers got back on the scoreboard. Junior Andre Jackson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Tigers.
Prairie View A&M held the Tigers off the scoreboard before rallying to tie it up at three in the seventh. The Panthers notched a run when Ybarra drew a walk from junior Daelan Caraway that scored sophomore Jayden Williams. Jackson State then scored five times over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 8-3 win.
