LORMAN, MS --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team kept Alcorn State to just 20 percent from 3-point range in a 2-for-10 shooting performance on the way to a 75-71 win against the Braves on the road Saturday.
The Panthers (12-17, 8-8) had four players score in double figures, led by Will Douglas, who had 23 points. Hegel Augustin tacked on 16 points and four steals off the bench and Yahuza Rasas chipped in as well with a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Prairie View A&M forced 14 Alcorn State turnovers. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Augustin's four steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.
How It Happened
After playing to a 20-20 tie, Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run with 6:02 left in the first half to take a 27-20 lead. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 38-34 advantage. Prairie View A&M got out and ran in the period, scoring 11 points on the break.
Alcorn State proceeded to take a 43-41 lead before Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Augustin's three, to seize a 49-43 lead with 13:47 to go in the contest. The Braves narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still held on for the 75-71 win. Prairie View A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 10 of its 37 total points.
