PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team shot 50 percent from three-point range on the way to a 75-45 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers at home Monday.
The Panthers (9-15, 5-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Will Douglas, who had 19 points. Tekorian Smith tacked on 17 points and Hegel Augustin chipped in as well with 16 points and six rebounds.
Prairie View A&M took advantage of excellent ball movement in Monday's game, piling up 16 assists on 28 made field goals. Individually, Ricky Nelson lent a helping hand the most for the Panthers with eight assists.
Prairie View A&M's defense held Florida A&M to only 30.9 percent shooting from the field, including 22.7 percent from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 18-15 advantage, Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run with 5:53 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Augustin, to increase its lead to 26-15. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 28-21 advantage. PVAMUÂ got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for seven of its 28 total points.
Following intermission, Prairie View A&M kept widening that lead, expanding it to 62-42 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Braden Bell's jumper, to grow the lead to 70-42 with 2:08 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 75-45 win. Prairie View A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 19 of its 47 total points.
