Prairie View A&M secures win against Florida A&M after halftime tie

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team went into the half tied with Florida A&M 19-19 but took control in the second half to knock off the Lady Rattlers 51-49 at home Monday.

The Panthers (10-12, 7-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Diana Rosenthal, who had 14 points and four steals. Gerlyn Smith added 10 points and nine rebounds and Kennedy Paul added six points and two steals.

Led by Jessica Soders' three offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in 13-second chance points.

Prairie View A&M forced 30 Florida A&M turnovers while committing 18 themselves in Monday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Rosenthal's four steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M started off strong, putting together a 10-9 lead heading into the second quarter. PVAMU did most of its first-quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 10 points close to the basket.

The Panthers surrendered their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime with the score tied 19-19. Prairie View A&M dominated in the paint, scoring six of its nine points close to the basket.

Prairie View A&M started the third quarter on a high note, going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Smith, to grab a 26-19 lead with 7:56 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Panthers added two points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 40-31 edge. PVAMU knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 21 total points.

The Panthers then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. Prairie View A&M took advantage of seven Florida A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
