Prairie View A&M falls 11-10 to McNeese despite late lead

LAKE CHARLES, La. --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 10-8 lead into the ninth inning, but could not hold on and fell 11-10 to the McNeese Cowboys Sunday.

Senior Joshua Larzabal (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (2-15).

Sophomore Alex Diaz led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Junior Andre Jackson put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Senior Sebastian Coria also contributed, going 3-for-5 for Prairie View A&M with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the third inning. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of sophomore Benjamin Ybarra.

The Cowboys failed to push any runs across before the Panthers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Prairie View A&M scored once on a run-scoring single off the bat of freshman Ahmar Donatto, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Panthers.

Prairie View A&M's lead had evaporated by the time the fifth inning arrived and turned into a 6-5 McNeese advantage, when the Panthers re-gained control at 7-6. The Panthers added two to their tally on Diaz's two-run homer to left.

The Cowboys then evened up the ballgame at seven before Prairie View A&M came back to reclaim their advantage in the sixth inning. The three-run fram for the Panthers was puncuated by a two-RBI double from Jackson. bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 10-7. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as McNeese scored four times over the remaining three innings to grab the 11-10 win.
