GAME 1 | Prairie View A&M 6, Texas Southern 2

HOUSTON, TX --The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers needed eight innings to get the job done, but secured the 6-2 extra-innings victory over the Texas Southern Lady Tigers Saturday.

Freshman Jerrica Rojas (2-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (5-15, 4-0). The right-hander went eight innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on eight hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.

In the batter's box, the Lady Panthers were led by freshman Biviana Figueroa, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a double, a home run and two RBI. Freshman Audrey Garcia furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Freshman Destinee Smith also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Prairie View A&M plated a run on a based-loaded walk by Smith.

The Lady Panthers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 2-1. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Smith, which brought the score level at 2-2.

That 2-2 tie turned into a 6-2 Prairie View A&M lead in the eighth. The Lady Panthers hit two home runs in the inning on the way to scoring four runs. The score remained 6-2 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M coasted to the win.
