PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers fell 11-7 in a 10-inning matchup to the SFA 'Jacks Wednesday.
Junior Tyrone Ty (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (2-12). The right-hander went 6.1 innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out five.
In the batter's box, the Panthers were paced by sophomore Alex Diaz, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBI. Freshman Ahmar Donatto put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Freshman Michael Burroughs also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Diaz.
The 'Jacks then rallied to score five runs and take a 6-4 lead before the Panthers got back on the board in the eighth. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Donatto, which tightened the 'Jacks lead to 6-5.
Prairie View A&M held the 'Jacks off the board before rallying to tie it up at six in the ninth. The Panthers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Marshal Jonas.
The 'Jacks broke up the tie and grabbed the lead heading into the tenth inning, when Prairie View A&M got back on the board. The Panthers recorded a run on Burroughs' two-out RBI double, tightening the SFA lead to 11-7. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
