Douglas scores 21 points in Prairie View A&M's 62-60 overtime loss to Jackson State

BIRMINGHAM, AL --Will Douglas scored 21 points, but the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Jackson State Tigers 62-60 in overtime at Bartow Arena Thursday.

The Panthers (13-19) had three players score in double figures, led by Douglas, who had 21 points and six rebounds. Braden Bell added 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Tekorian Smith helped out with 10 points, four assists and two steals.

Prairie View A&M out-rebounded Jackson State 50-48 in Thursday's game, paced by Yahuza Rasas' 14 boards. The Panthers also grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and scored 21 second chance points.

Prairie View A&M forced 17 Jackson State turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Thursday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Smith's two steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.

How It Happened

After falling behind 4-3, Prairie View A&M went on a 13-0 run with 17:18 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Bell, to take a 16-4 lead. The Panthers then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 28-16 advantage. Prairie View A&M relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 28 points.

Jackson State proceeded to take a 53-46 lead before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 53-52 with 1:31 to go in the contest. The Panthers rally continued as they outscored Jackson State 2-1 the rest of the way to tie it at 54-54 and send the game to overtime. Prairie View A&M made the most of 11 offensive rebounds to tack on 11 second chance points out of 26 total in the period.

Jackson State then edged ahead in overtime, leaving Prairie View A&M behind 62-60 at the final buzzer.
