Prairie View A&M plates Six runs over Incarnate Word; Continues win Streak

PRAIRIE VIEW -- It was a rough day for Incarnate Word pitchers, as the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers racked up six runs en route to a 6-2 win over the D1 Cardinals on Wednesday.  The Lady Panthers are now on a 15 game win streak.

Junior Jerrica Rojas (5-0) got the win for Prairie View A&M (19-15). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on six hits.

Freshman Mia Nunez led the way offensively for the Lady Panthers, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk, and two RBI. Junior Biviana Figueroa furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Junior Brandi Juarez also chipped in, going 2-for-3 for Prairie View A&M with a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Panthers were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M plated two runs when Nunez left the yard with Juarez aboard.

The Cardinals then tied the ballgame at two before the Lady Panthers came back to reclaim their advantage in the sixth inning. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Figueroa, which brought the Lady Panthers lead to 6-2. The score remained 6-2 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M coasted to the win.

GAME NOTES

» Prairie View A&M's highest-scoring inning was the sixth when it pushed four runs across.
» Prairie View A&M went 3-for-7 (.429) with runners in scoring position.
» Prairie View A&M pitchers faced 31 Incarnate Word hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and 13 fly balls.
» Nunez led the Lady Panthers at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI.
» Incarnate Word was led offensively by junior A Sanchez, who went 1-for-1 with a home run and an RBI.

UP NEXT:

 PVAMU will host Grambling State for a three-game series beginning with a first pitch set for Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m. in the PVAMU Softball Complex.  The teams will continue to play on Saturday with a doubleheader.  The first game is scheduled for noon on April 15.
