PINE BLUFF, Arkansas --Junior M. Dews had everything working on Friday, punching out eight UAPB hitters over six innings of work to help lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the Golden Lions 14-1.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Dews (3-4) tossed six innings, giving up one run on six hits and walking none for Prairie View A&M (12-21, ). Freshman A. Donatto also made an impact on the mound for the Panthers, starting the ballgame and throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.
Offensively, the Panthers were paced by Donatto, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a walk and four RBI. Senior A. Martinez compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-5 with four RBI. Sophomore G. Weiss also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run error off the bat of Martinez.
The Panthers then held the Golden Lions scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Martinez and a two-run single from Donatto, which brought the Panthers lead to 11-0.
UAPB narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 11-1 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 14-1 in the seventh inning. The score remained 14-1 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M coasted to the win.
