HOUSTON, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers put together a ferocious comeback, scoring three runs over the eighth and ninth innings, but the late-game rally came up short and they fell 11-10 to the Texas Southern Tigers Sunday.
Junior Tyrone Ty (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (9-19, 7-2). Sophomore Kyle Carrick was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.2 innings, surrendering one run on three hits, walking none, and striking out three.
At the plate, the Panthers were led by junior Derrek Lathon, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk, and three RBI. Junior Tyran Norris put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Senior Sebastian Coria also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers lost despite scoring in six different innings in the ballgame, last holding the lead in the ninth inning at 10-9. Prairie View A&M's biggest output came in its three-run fourth inning. The Panthers scored their three runs on a three-run homer from Lathon that scored Norris and senior Alex Martinez.
