Rojas' no-hitter powers Prairie View A&M past UAPB 11-1; Softball Remains Undefeated in Conference Play with 17-5 eight inning Win

GAME 1 | Prairie View A&M 11, UAPB 1

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas --Junior Jerrica Rojas turned in a stellar performance on Thursday, tossing a no-hitter and striking out five to lead the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers over the UAPB Lady Lions 11-1.

Rojas (4-1) added her fourth win of the season to her outstanding performance. The right-hander struck out five and walked four for Prairie View A&M (17-15, 14-0) on her way to the record books.

In the batter's box, the Lady Panthers were paced by sophomore Aerin Talley, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Junior Biviana Figueroa put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Hannah Garza also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two walks and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Figueroa's RBI double was the key hit in Prairie View A&M's three-run inning.

The Lady Panthers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the second inning after the Lady Lions cut it to 3-1. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run double off the bat of junior Destinee Smith, which brought the Lady Panthers lead to 7-1.

Prairie View A&M kept UAPB scoreless before building their lead to 8-1 in the fourth inning. The Lady Panthers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Maya Barnes.

Prairie View A&M held the Lady Lions without a run before their offense got back in action the next inning. The three-run frame for the Lady Panthers was punctuated by a two-run single off the bat of Garza. bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 11-1. The score remained 11-1 for the rest of the game, as the Lady Panthers coasted to the win.

GAME 2 | Prairie View A&M 17, UAPB 5

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas --The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers needed eight innings to get the job done but secured the 17-5 extra-innings victory over the UAPB Lady Lions Thursday.

Sophomore Hailey Elizarraras (4-5) got the win for Prairie View A&M (18-15, 15-0). The right-hander went five innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Sophomore Cailin Massey also pitched well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none, and striking out one.

Junior Jaylyn Davis led the way offensively for the Lady Panthers, going 3-for-5 in the ballgame with a double, a home run, a walk, and four RBI. Junior Audrey Garcia compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Junior Biviana Figueroa also contributed, going 1-for-2 for Prairie View A&M with four walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Garcia.

The Lady Panthers then held the Lady Lions scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Prairie View A&M scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run homer from Davis, which brought the score to 9-0 in favor of the Lady Panthers.

Prairie View A&M held UAPB scoreless before building their lead to 11-0 in the fourth inning.

The Lady Lions fought back, closing the gap to 11-5 until Prairie View A&M added some insurance in the seventh. The Lady Panthers scored six runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of Garcia, bringing the score to 17-5 in favor of Prairie View A&M. The score remained 17-5 for the rest of the game, as the Lady Panthers coasted to the win.
