PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Prairie View A&M got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Panthers put six runs on the board and defeat the Grambling Tigers 6-1 Saturday.
Sophomore Matthew Krall (4-4) got the win out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (19-35, 15-14). The right-hander went four shutout innings, giving up two hits, no walks, and striking out one. Senior Matthew Sandoval started the ballgame and went four innings, surrendering one run on five hits, walking none, and striking out one.
Senior Sebastian Coria led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a walk and two RBI. Freshman Michael Burroughs furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Junior Tyran Norris also contributed, going 1-for-3 for Prairie View A&M with a double and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from Coria, scoring junior Derrek Lathon from third base.
The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Panther's offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Burroughs, which brought the Panther's lead to 2-0.
Grambling narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 2-1 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 4-1 in the fifth inning. Burroughs' run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Panthers.
Prairie View A&M held the Tigers scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. Coria's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Panthers, bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 6-1. The score remained 6-1 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
