LORMAN, Mississippi -- converted a 46-yard field goal as time expired to give Prairie View A&M a spectacular 23-20 win over Alcorn State on Saturday night at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium.
The Panthers improved to 2-2 on the year and 2-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Braves fell to 1-3 and 0-1.
Ahmad Antoine totaled 73 yards to lead the Panthers' ground attack and added one touchdown in the game, picking up 4.6 yards per carry along the way. Caleb Johnson also tacked on 62 yards on the ground, picking up 6.2 yards per carry.
Trazon Connley's most prolific target in the ballgame was Brian Jenkins Jr., who caught two passes for 58 yards. Coby Cavil got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in three balls for 54 yards.
Derrick Ray showed out for the Prairie View A&M defense, recording three tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack. Cj Pressley added six tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack and Team had in the win.
Defensively, Prairie View A&M did an excellent job restricting the Alcorn State rushing attack, holding the Braves to 61 yards on the ground. In part because of that stellar defense, Prairie View A&M runners out-gained their Alcorn State counterparts 151-61.
How It Happened
Alcorn State jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but Prairie View A&M responded to tie the game at 7-7 with 2:05 remaining in the second quarter.Alcorn State responded and went up 13-7 before the Panthers scored again on a 32-yard touchdown reception from Connley to to jump back ahead 14-13.
Prairie View A&M kept building its lead, scoring again with 6:50 remaining in the fourth quarter to go ahead 20-13.Alcorn State came back to tie the game at 20-20, but the Panthers answered back with a 46-yard field goal from Garcia Rodriguez to retake the lead at 23-20. Neither team scored again in the game.
