Panthers come up short in a 21-17 loss to UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas --  Prairie View A&M Panthers encountered a challenging outing in their latest conference football clash against the Ark.-Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Friday night at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Under clear skies, the Panthers fought valiantly but fell short with a final score of 17-21 against the Golden Lions.

The game started competitively, with Prairie View keeping pace with Pine Bluff. By halftime, the scoreboard read Prairie View 14, Pine Bluff 21, reflecting a game filled with back-and-forth action. Highlighting the Panthers' efforts, Jeremiah Ratliff scored a critical touchdown, contributing significantly to Prairie View's competitive performance. Guillermo Garcia Rodriguez stood out on special teams, successfully kicking field goals of 50, 54, and 49 yards, showcasing skill and steadiness.

A key moment in the match came in the fourth quarter when Liam Lindo of UAPB intercepted a pass in Prairie View territory. This crucial play was pivotal, hindering the Panthers' momentum. Lamagea McDowell paced the Panthers rushing attack by accumulating 38 yards throughout the game, averaging 9.5 yards per carry. Connor Wisham also added 33 yards on the ground, averaging 4.1 yards per carry.

Johnson's most prolific target in the ballgame was Trejon Spiller, who caught three passes for 46 yards.

Jamal Marshall showed out for the Prairie View A&M defense, recording three tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack. Steven Shaw, Jr. had 1.0 TFL in the loss.

Defensively, Prairie View A&M held up fairly well against the UAPB rushing attack, holding the Golden Lions to 115 yards on the ground.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M grabbed a 8-0 lead over UAPB after scoring the game's first points with 11:17 left in the first quarter.UAPB then scored to take a 14-8 lead before the Panthers put a field goal on the board to close the gap and make it a 14-11 game.

After UAPB scored to increase its lead to 21-11, Prairie View A&M responded with a field goal with 00 remaining in the second quarter lead to cut the deficit to 21-14. The Panthers then scored again, narrowing the gap to 21-17. Neither team scored again in the game.
