DAYTONA BEACH, FL --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team kept Bethune-Cookman to just 10 percent from 3-point range in a 1-for-10 shooting performance, but fell 74-61 to the Wildcats on the road Saturday.
The Panthers (9-11, 5-5) had two players score in double figures, led by Ryann Payne, who had 18 points and three steals. Amauri Williams tacked on 12 points and two blocks from the bench and Gerlyn Smith added eight points and three steals.
Led by Smith's two offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in seven second chance points.
Prairie View A&M forced 17 Bethune-Cookman turnovers. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 12 points on the other end of the floor. Smith's three steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.

Prairie View A&M kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 20-18.
Bethune-Cookman kept adding to that lead, building a 29-25 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Desiree Lewis, to take a 30-29 lead. The Wildcats then came roaring back to take a 38-37 lead heading into halftime.
Prairie View A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Panthers faced a 52-48 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Prairie View A&M played well near the basket, scoring six of its 11 points in the paint.
Prairie View A&M could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 74-61. Prairie View A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
