COVINGTON, Ga. --Prairie View A&M got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Panthers fell to the Howard Bison 10-4 Friday.
Junior Cailin Massey (0-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Prairie View A&M (0-6). Senior Breanna Reyna was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none, and striking out three.
Sophomore Mia Nunez led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI. Freshman Reagan Green put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Senior Jaylyn Davis also helped out, going 1-for-2 for Prairie View A&M with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Prairie View A&M got on the board thanks to Green's RBI double with two outs.
The Bison then rallied to score five runs and take a 5-1 lead before the Panthers got back on the board in the third. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Davis, which tightened the Bison lead to 5-2.
Prairie View A&M kept the Bison off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 5-3 in the fourth. The Panthers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Audrey Garcia.
The Bison expanded their lead to 10-3 before the Prairie View A&M offense got back in action, cutting into that lead in the seventh. The Panthers scored a run on Nunez's two-out RBI double, bringing the score to 10-4 in favor of Howard. The ballgame ended with that seventh-inning rally falling short.
