Mcknight racks up 3 extra base hits in Prairie View A&M's loss to UMKC

HOUSTON, Texas --Junior Tamera McKnight racked up three extra-base hits, but the Prairie View A&M Panthers fell to the UMKC Kangaroos 12-6 on Saturday.

Senior Jerrica Rojas (1-2) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (3-9) and took the loss.

McKnight's three extra-base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-4 day and included two doubles, a home run, and five RBI. Senior Jaylyn Davis compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Senior Biviana Figueroa also chipped in for the Panthers, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Prairie View A&M plated two runs when Mcknight left the yard with Figueroa aboard.

The Panthers kept the deficit at 4-2 before closing the gap further in the third. Prairie View A&M pushed across a run on McKnight's two-out RBI double, which tightened the Kangaroos lead to 4-3.

UMKC expanded their lead to 10-3 before the Prairie View A&M offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 10-6 in the fifth. The Panthers notched three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-RBI double from McKnight. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as UMKC added two runs to their tally on the way to a 12-6 final.
