Prairie View A&M falls to Tarleton State 10-2 and 7-6 in Doubleheader action

GAME 1 | Tarleton State 10, Prairie View A&M 2

STEPHENVILLE, TX --The Prairie View A&M Panthers had a tough showing on Tuesday, falling to the Tarleton State Texans by final score of 10-2.

Junior Cailin Massey (1-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Prairie View A&M (4-12).

Offensively, the Panthers were paced by junior Hannah Garza, who went 1-for-3 on the day with an RBI. Senior Jaylyn Davis put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 6-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Garza's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Prairie View A&M. The ballgame ended with that fifth inning rally falling short.

GAME NOTES

GAME 2 | Tarleton State 7, Prairie View A&M 6

STEPHENVILLE, TX --The Prairie View A&M Panthers fell 7-6 in an eight-inning matchup to the Tarleton State Texans Tuesday.

Senior Breanna Reyna (1-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Prairie View A&M (4-13).

Senior Jaylyn Davis led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double, a home run and an RBI. Sophomore Mia Nunez put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Sophomore Kailey Herrera also helped out, going 2-for-4 for Prairie View A&M with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a three-run double off the bat of Nunez.

The Panthers then held the Texans scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Prairie View A&M picked up a run on Davis' leadoff home run off of freshman Kendall Daniel, which brought the Panthers lead to 5-2.

Tarleton State narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 5-4 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 6-4 in the fifth inning. The Panthers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Herrera. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Tarleton State scored three times over the remaining three innings to grab the 7-6 win.
