Massey dominant for Prairie View A&M in shutout win against Alcorn State; Nunez records 4 RBIs ign ame two 10-4 win

GAME 1 | Prairie View A&M 12, Alcorn State 0

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Junior Cailin Massey was dealing on Monday, hurling a two-hit shutout to lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the Alcorn State Lady Braves 12-0.

Massey (3-5) went the distance for Prairie View A&M (8-14, 3-0), giving up two hits, walking none and striking out three.

Offensively, the Panthers were paced by senior Jaylyn Davis, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Senior Biviana Figueroa compiled a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Freshman Isabela Rodriguez also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run groundout off the bat of senior Audrey Garcia.

The Panthers then tacked on runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fourth when they scored four times. The big hit in that inning was a one-run single off the bat of Figueroa.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Sophomore Mia Nunez racked up four RBIs to help lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the Alcorn State Lady Braves 10-4 on Wednesday.

Senior Breanna Reyna (4-4) got the win for Prairie View A&M (9-14, 4-0). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on nine hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.

Nunez went 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Panthers. Senior Destinee Smith put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with two RBI. Senior Biviana Figueroa also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up nine runs, including a grand slam off the bat of Nunez and a two-run single from Smith.

The Panthers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the sixth inning after the Lady Braves cut it to 9-3. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Figueroa, which brought the Panthers lead to 10-3. Alcorn State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Prairie View A&M still coasted to the 10-4 win.
