PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Junior Hannah Garza collected four RBIs to help power the Prairie View A&M Panthers over the Alcorn State Lady Braves 22-6 on Tuesday.
Senior Jerrica Rojas (2-2) got the win for Prairie View A&M (9-14, 5-0). The right-hander went three innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on five hits.
Garza went 1-for-1 with a home run and two walks in addition to her four RBIs for the Panthers. Senior Biviana Figueroa put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a walk and three RBI. Senior Jaylyn Davis also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers were trailing 2-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up 14 runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Garza and a two-run single from Figueroa.
The Panthers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the second inning after the Lady Braves cut it to 14-3. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Davis, which brought the Panthers lead to 15-3.
Alcorn State narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 15-4 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 21-4 in the third inning. The Panthers bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run double off the bat of freshman Reagan Green.
The Lady Braves gained ground, closing the gap to 21-6 until Prairie View A&M added some insurance in the fourth. Freshman Jade Uresti crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Panthers, bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 22-6. The score remained 22-6 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
